Coxmoor Golf Club was founded in 1913 and the course is sited in the heart of England on a high heathland plateau close to Sutton in Ashfield, to the south of the colliery town of Mansfield. Tom Williamson (the professional at Notts Golf Club) and Len White (the Coxmoor professional), laid out the current course in the 1930s after new land was acquired, allowing 18 holes to be sited around the clubhouse. This is largely the rather appealing course that is in play today.

Perched proudly upon one of the highest points in Nottinghamshire, Coxmoor commands panoramic views across the Leicestershire Wolds and the Vale of Belvoir. On a clear day from the 13th tee you can see as far as Lincoln Minster.

The course stretches out beyond 6,500 yards with par set at 73 and, with five par fives, there are birdie opportunities available for the taking. There are also some very testing holes and probably the toughest include the 5th and the 12th.  If the prevailing wind is up, both these par fours are virtually out of reach in regulation.

Coxmoor is a hugely popular venue for visiting societies and many make repeat bookings year after year. Comments from visitors are always complimentary about the excellent course condition and the welcome received from this well-established club.

Alec Shepperson is the current club president and had the great honour of representing Great Britain in two Walker Cups. In his second appearance in 1959 he played against Jack Nicklaus in the singles event. The club pros seem to enjoy their time here too, in fact, there have only ever been three. When Leonard White retired in 1948, his son Bill picked up the job for 37 years and currently David Ridley holds the post, a relative newcomer in the role having served a mere 20 years!

Coxmoor has also staged Regional Qualifying for the Open Championship as well as the British Seniors Amateur Open Championship.

Nottinghamshire boasts four fantastic courses and Coxmoor sits comfortably alongside NottsWorksop and Sherwood Forest. We certainly think that this is a great golfing county, which is well worth visiting.

Just played Coxmoor for the second time this year, and we were even more impressed than the first. Every body is so friendly in the Pro-shop, bar, and on the course. Coxmoor opens with really nice par 4 slight dog leg left to a raised green, then just gets better with every hole! The fairways are on great turf, good to walk on and play off. But the rough is unforgiving (you just have to take your medicine and chip out) Bunkers are consistent all over the course. The greens are some of the best we have ever played, fairly quick until it rained (and Dean went into a Dark Place for the rest of the day) If you are up for a great golf trip play Sherwood Forest, Bredsall priory and Coxmoor together like us. We stayed at the excellent value for money Mansfield Lodge Hotel about 3 miles away Fantastic!

Splendid golf course in a little aera of Nottinghamshire heathland. The course was in greater condition when we played it in December and was a real treat. There's a great variety of holes and some great changes in elevation which make club selection interesting whilst not too hard a walk. Par 5's give you a chance to score but elsewhere you need to be on top of your game. Highly recommended.

I love this course! I've played Coxmoor a number of times and each time it proves to be a joy. Full of interesting holes its a great course that doesn't have to rely on sheer length to be a tough test. Set in undulating moorland/heathland this course is certainly a very good test of your golf game. Coxmoor is one of 3 excellent courses in the Notts are (just down the road from Hollinwell and a couple of miles from Sherwood Forest) I'd say this course is probably more forgiving than it's 2 neighbours but that doesn't mean it's easy. You'll get a really friendly welcome from the members who are rightly proud of their golf course. Coxmoor is a true gem and well worth the visit

Played here last May in a society day and it was stunning. The course is varied and keeps you interested all the way round. Condition was superb and they looked after us really well. As I recall, the lowest handicapper won the day and he kept the ball in play. It’s not a course to open your shoulders. We played 36 holes and I liked it even better the second time round. This is a great value course too for a traditional club…highly recommended.
